Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Magomedov (ranked 4331 p4p, 4253 weight class) and Rodney Shiesty (ranked 0 p4p, 301 weight class). Vladimir Magomedov had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magomedov looks for the body kick but Shiesty saw that one coming.

Magomedov drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Magomedov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Shiesty tries to improve position but can't.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Magomedov slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Shiesty throws a combination that misses

and Magomedov counters with a shoot takedown. Shiesty fights it but they end up in guard.

Magomedov prevents Shiesty from improving his position.
Shiesty should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
It looks like Magomedov is going to stand back up.
Magomedov is thwarting Shiesty's attempts to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Magomedov is looking to stall here but Shiesty recovers full guard.
Shiesty manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Magomedov manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Magomedov tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Shiesty postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Shiesty wants to control from the top but Magomedov keeps moving.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Magomedov tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Shiesty smiles and moves away.
Shiesty stuffs the takedown attempt from Magomedov. Magomedov gets slowly back to his feet.

Magomedov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shiesty, pushing him back against the cage.

Magomedov has picked Shiesty up - he's going for a ride! Magomedov dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Magomedov is pulling down on Shiesty's head. It's preventing any offense from Shiesty, at least for the moment.
Magomedov wants to get back to his feet but Shiesty is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Shiesty is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Shiesty prevents Magomedov from getting back to his feet.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Shiesty swings for the body but Magomedov moves out of range.

Shiesty shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shiesty was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
