PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Aiden Murphy (ranked 25387 p4p, 3713 weight class) and Jeramiah Pony (ranked 337 p4p, 233 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jeramiah Pony was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jeramiah Pony!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Winston Alpacca and Dirk Anderson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pony throws out a loose jab but Murphy uses good head movement to avoid it.
Murphy misses with a takedown attempt - Pony sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Pony misses with a hook. Murphy ducked under it nicely.
Murphy is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Pony.

Pony feints and as Murphy raises his hands in defense, Pony changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Murphy is on top in guard.

Murphy wants to control from the top but Pony keeps moving.

Murphy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pony is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pony has escaped and now he's on top!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pony distracts Murphy with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Murphy is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Murphy has his foot on Pony's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pony works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pony is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
My spies in Cozad The Island inform me that Pony has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Pony content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Pony with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Murphy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pony is aware though and is defending well.
Pony has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Pony passes Murphy's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Murphy has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pony is working away from the top position though.
Murphy is looking for a sweep. Pony is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Pony is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Murphy wants to control but Pony is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pony content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Murphy could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pony takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Pony slows the pace down in half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Pony is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Murphy tries to get to full guard but Pony has control of the leg.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Pony is trying for a kimura here. Murphy looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Pony wins by kimura!

Jeramiah Pony was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
