Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thunda Punch (ranked 1875 p4p, 3311 weight class) and Gerard Messing (ranked 223 p4p, 389 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punch moves away from the strike by Messing.

Messing closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Messing lands in his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Messing postures up in Punch's guard and throws a big left but Punch blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Messing throws an elbow that misses. Punch uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Messing's guard. Nice move by Punch!

Messing looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Messing is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Messing looking to control but Punch passes into half guard.
Messing felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

and Punch cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

And Messing tries to counter it with a takedown but Punch pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Messing wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Punch fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Messing keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Punch dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Punch throws a leg kick that misses.
Punch throws a low kick but Messing moves out of range easily.
Punch clobbers Messing with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Punch tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Messing was well out of range. Poor timing from Punch.

Punch throwing a counter right hand but Messing manages to avoid it.
Punch is looking to wear down Messing with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Messing closes the distance and clinches up with Punch, looking for a takedown. Messing pushes Punch against the cage but Punch circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Messing moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Punch swings for the body but Messing moves out of range.
Punch lands with a shot to the body.
Punch fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Messing throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Punch keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Messing.

The fighters circling - Messing throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

It looks like Gerard Messing has been cut.
Messing lands the left hand.
The crowd cheers as Punch lands an impressive looking overhand right. Messing doesn't seem phased though.

Messing misses with a takedown attempt
and Punch counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Thunda Punch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gerard Messing.
Messing connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Punch lands a big uppercut and Messing crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Messing looks OK. Punch waves Messing back to his feet!

Messing throws an overhand right that lands on Punch's shoulder, as Punch tries to avoid the shot.
Messing seems to have recovered his senses.

Punch lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Messing at a distance.

Punch drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Messing right on the button. Messing goes down! Punch follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Punch gets the win via TKO!
