PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gene Mean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Matthews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matthews has chosen Some heads are gonna roll as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews wants to clinch up but Mean keeps it at a distance.
Mean blocks a head kick by Matthews.
Matthews pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Matthews is looking to clinch but Mean is avoiding it.

Mean looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mean throwing shots but Matthews is blocking nicely.
Mean controlling the action here.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Matthews has eaten all the pies!

The referee stands the fighters back up. Gene Mean just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Mean avoids the head kick by Matthews.

Mean scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Mean is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Matthews's shoulder. That is not cool.
Mean working the ground and pound.

Matthews tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mean wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mean works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Mean staying calm.
Mean fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Mean has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mean working the ground and pound.
Mean controls the position.
Mean wants to lay and pray for a moment but Matthews keeps working.
Mean throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

You can see the frustration on Matthews's face as Mean controls the position.
Mean's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Mean seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Matthews for as long as he can get away with.

Mean tries for a kimura but Matthews is defending well.
Mean is breathing heavily.

Mean wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Matthews, who protects the arm well.
Mean wants to control but Matthews is keeping him busy.
Matthews is looking to regain half guard here but Mean keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Mean will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Matthews lands a brutal head kick. Mean looks out on his feet and Matthews throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
