PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Johnson (ranked 716 p4p, 1403 weight class) and Yin Mao (ranked 64 p4p, 131 weight class). Mao has chosen HonestKey- Pass as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Yin Mao!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mao throws a big shot that misses.
Mao's coach down at Temple of Fitness was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Mao's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Mao throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Johnson on the side of the head.
Mao pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mao misses with a head kick.
A counter left hand to the body from Johnson misses its target.
Danga de danga de dang - Mao scores with a four punch combination!

It looks like James Johnson has been cut.
We've been told by Johnson's head coaches at Heavy Metal that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Johnson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Mao defending well as Johnson loads up on a big left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mao walks into a jab.
Johnson digs a good body shot into Mao's ribs.
Mao throws a head kick that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson throws a shot to the body.
Mao stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Johnson.
Johnson lands a slapping body shot.
Johnson stalks Mao and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mao's face. Mao staggers backwards, shaken.
Mao ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Johnson moves into the clinch successfully.
Mao slowing the pace effectively.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Johnson scores with a jab. Mao acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
A thudding body kick lands there by Mao!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mao moves out of range as Johnson strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson avoids the head kick by Mao.
Johnson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Mao pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Johnson appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Left hook, right uppercut from Johnson.

Mao is rocked!
Johnson connects with a picture perfect right hand that knocks Mao out cold! This one is over in a flash!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). James Johnson!
An out of breath James Johnson thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
Yin Mao spoke after the fight, saying 'Oh well, on to the next one!'.
