Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Trent Emmett (ranked 4638 p4p, 4245 weight class) and Ricardo Reo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ricardo Reo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trent Emmett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Reo!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emmett looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Reo looking to score a takedown here. Emmett is defending well but Reo drives through and ends up in Emmett's guard.
Emmett managing to control the position.
Reo won't allow Emmett to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Reo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Emmett gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Reo to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Reo tries to stand but Emmett is controlling from the bottom.

Emmett is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reo stays in close to Emmett's body and controls the position.

Reo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Emmett swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Reo is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Emmett is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Emmett has escaped and now he's on top!


Emmett got a little sloppy there for a moment and Reo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Emmett has managed to get both his arms back between Reo's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Emmett stands and throws Reo's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Emmett sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Reo is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Emmett remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Reo wants to get back to his feet but Emmett drags him back down.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Emmett closes the distance and clinches up with Reo, looking for a takedown. Emmett pushes Reo against the cage but Reo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Reo goes for a double leg but Emmett avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Emmett continues to drive forward.
No joy there for Reo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Reo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Emmett closes this distance looking for a takedown but Reo circles away.
Reo stuffs the takedown attempt from Emmett. Emmett gets slowly back to his feet.
Reo wants to counter with a clinch but Emmett pushes him away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trent Emmett. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Reo dives in and scores a takedown into Emmett's guard.

Emmett manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Emmett blocks the body kick.
Reo throws a series of punches but Emmett moves out of range.
Trent Emmett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Emmett fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Reo avoids it really well and circles away.
Reo tries to land a front kick but Emmett steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
It looked like Emmett was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Emmett shoots in for a double leg but Reo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Emmett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Reo swivels and escapes.
Reo raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Reo shoots for a takedown but Emmett saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Emmett is looking to take a break and control but Reo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Reo regains full guard. Nicely done.

Trent Emmett overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Reo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Emmett pushes Reo off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Reo throws a combination that misses
and Emmett counters with a three punch combo that has Reo backing up. Reo nods at Emmett to acknowledge the strikes.
Emmett avoids the body shot from Reo.
Reo misses with an uppercut
enabling Emmett to counter with a crisp jab.
No luck for Emmett with that takedown attempt.
Emmett shoots for a double leg takedown but Reo sprawls well. He's pushed Emmett's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Reo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Emmett's guard.

Emmett scrambles and gets back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Trent Emmett will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Emmett avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Reo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Emmett.

Reo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Emmett manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Ricardo Reo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Emmett cracks Reo with a right hand to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Emmett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Reo swivels and escapes.
Reo looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Emmett throws a front kick aimed at Reo's knee but Reo avoids it well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Emmett takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Reo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Emmett defends it nicely.

Nice takedown defense from Reo. No joy for Emmett on that attempt.

Reo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Reo wants it to stay on the feet.
Emmett tries to clinch but Reo moves out of range.

Emmett is trying to break the clinch but Reo has him pressed against the cage.

Reo is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Reo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Reo keeping moving, preventing Emmett from controlling successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reo can do anything to dispel that myth.
Reo will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Reo is looking to stand up but Emmett isn't so interested in that idea.

Emmett stopping the sweep attempt from Reo.
Emmett wants to control from the top but Reo keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Reo tries to clinch but Emmett moves away

so Emmett counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Emmett trying to control but Reo is working from the bottom.
Reo trying to keep a closed guard but Emmett is proving a slippery customer.
Emmett prevents Reo from getting back to his feet.

Reo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Emmett controls the pace.
Reo is looking to sweep but instead, Emmett has passed into half guard.
Emmett passes the guard and advances to mount!
Reo reaches up to try and control the position but Emmett seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Reo rolls and tries to escape and now Emmett has his back!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Trent Emmett.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Emmett, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
