Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Sturd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Forrest Griffen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Sturd might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Kanye West - Stronger. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Sturd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Forrest Griffen!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sturd avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Griffen closes the distance looking to clinch
and Sturd counters with a head kick. That will keep Griffen thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Griffen clinches but Sturd breaks the clinch

and Sturd counters with a takedown into side control.
Griffen is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sturd asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Griffen sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Griffen is trying to stand.
Sturd wants to pass to mount but Griffen is defending the position.
Griffen is trying to stand up here but Sturd is controlling him well.
Griffen tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Griffen tries to kick Sturd off but Sturd keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Griffen wants to get back to his feet.
Sturd perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Griffen tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Sturd counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sturd stays in close to Griffen's body and controls the position.
Sturd trying to control but Griffen is working from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Griffen is on top in guard.
Sturd is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Sturd stalling.

Griffen looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Griffen wants to get back to his feet.
Sturd content to control rather than advance.
Griffen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffen wants to get back to his feet.
Sturd is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Griffen tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Sturd counters by moving into the clinch.
Griffen misses with a knee to the head.
Sturd is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Griffen is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Griffen misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sturd.
Griffen is trying to break free.
Griffen throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Sturd blocks it with crossed arms.
Griffen looks gassed!
Griffen wants to stall.
Sturd has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Griffen is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Griffen throws a knee to the head but misses.
Griffen tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Sturd is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Griffen pulls him back up using the underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Sturd dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Sturd looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Griffen is fending him off so far but Sturd persists. Nope, Griffen circles away and we're back to standing.
Sturd shoots in for a double leg but Griffen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Griffen clinches but Sturd breaks the clinch

and Sturd counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Griffen has his foot on Sturd's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sturd works his way back into a safe position though.

Griffen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Griffen pushes a forearm under Sturd's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sturd is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Forrest Griffen!
