The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fastard fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Simmons sprawls well initially but Fastard persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Fastard wants to pass the guard but Simmons is defending well.
Fastard is breathing heavily.
Simmons controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Simmons is trying to control but can't.

Fastard throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Simmons is controlling Fastard's position as best he can from this difficult position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Fastard fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Bat Fastard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fastard moves away from the strike by Simmons.
Fastard tries for a takedown but Simmons circles away easily
and Simmons counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Fastard!

Simmons is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Fastard is defending well though. Simmons let's go of the attempt for now.

Simmons is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Fastard defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
You can see the frustration on Fastard's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simmons looking to break Fastard's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Fastard remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Simmons will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
