PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dell Trotter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Selezniak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dell Trotter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Selezniak!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trotter leaves Selezniak with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Trotter misses with a two punch combination.
Selezniak slips a jab and a cross from Trotter.

Selezniak closes the distance and clinches.

Selezniak breaks from the clinch.
Trotter scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Trotter misses with a takedown

and Selezniak holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Trotter wants to get back to striking at distance but Selezniak won't allow it.
Selezniak prevents a takedown attempt there.
Trotter is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dell Trotter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Selezniak tries for a takedown but Trotter manages to get underhooks.
Selezniak lands a good knee to the midsection. Trotter won't want to take too many of those.
Trotter wants to break free but Selezniak has control.

Trotter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Selezniak manages to get himself to full guard.
Selezniak has his hands on Trotter's head, controlling the position.
Selezniak's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Trotter postures up and lands a big shot to Selezniak's brow.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Selezniak wants to get back to his feet but Trotter is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Trotter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Trotter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Selezniak manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Trotter manages to get himself to full guard.

Selezniak stands and throws Trotter's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Trotter throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Trotter takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Trotter tries to improve position but can't.
Selezniak wants to control but Trotter is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Selezniak decides to stand back up.
Selezniak tries to clinch up.
Trotter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Trotter lands a slapping body shot.
Trotter is breathing heavily.

Selezniak rushes Trotter and presses him up against the cage.
Trotter drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Selezniak gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Selezniak tries to score a body lock takedown but Trotter shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Trotter wants to get back to striking at distance but Selezniak won't allow it.
Selezniak just leaning against Trotter, taking a breather.
Trotter wants to break free but Selezniak has control.
Trotter has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Trotter gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Selezniak.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trotter tries to break the clinch but Selezniak is controlling the position.
A frustrated look appears on Trotter's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Trotter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Trotter scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Selezniak shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Trotter counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Trotter postures up.
Selezniak utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Trotter tries to free his leg and advance position but Selezniak is retaining full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Selezniak lands a decent shot there.
Selezniak keeping moving, preventing Trotter from controlling successfully.

Trotter got a little sloppy there for a moment and Selezniak has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Trotter has managed to get both his arms back between Selezniak's legs - danger averted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dell Trotter dominated that round.
That's time! Trotter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Trotter scores with a shot to the body.
Selezniak staying out of range there.
Trotter fails with the takedown
and Selezniak counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Trotter thinking.
Horrible takedown by Selezniak or perhaps it was just good defense by Trotter which made him look bad.
Selezniak doesn't manage to clinch there - Trotter circles away.

Selezniak fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Trotter, pushing him back against the cage.

Selezniak escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Trotter gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Trotter misses with a hook from the clinch.

Selezniak decides to pull guard.
Selezniak controls Trotter momentarily but Trotter frees himself.
Trotter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Selezniak keeping moving, preventing Trotter from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trotter is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Trotter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Selezniak swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Trotter passes easily into side control. Nice work.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Selezniak can do anything to dispel that myth.
Check out the look on Trotter's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Trotter is trying to ground and pound but Selezniak uses the momentary lack of control by Trotter to regain half guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Trotter lands a nice short elbow.
Selezniak is staying active underneath Trotter, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Selezniak is trying to stand back up but Trotter is controlling him
Selezniak keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Selezniak wants to control but Trotter is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Trotter throws out a leg kick but Selezniak moves out of range and Trotter only half commits.
Selezniak shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trotter as he avoids it easily.

Selezniak trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Trotter throws a big right hand that misses.
Selezniak not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Selezniak looking for a sweep. Not yet Selezniak, not yet.

Selezniak pushes Trotter off and scrambles back to his feet.

Selezniak instigates a clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Selezniak.
Trotter has Selezniak pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Selezniak manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dell Trotter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Trotter throws a head punch that misses.

Selezniak has Trotter pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Selezniak pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Trotter tumbling to the mat - Selezniak dives into Trotter's guard.
Trotter looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Trotter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Selezniak can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Selezniak accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Selezniak seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Selezniak wants to pass the guard but Trotter is defending well.
Selezniak wants to control but Trotter is keeping him busy.
Trotter tries to get to full guard but Selezniak has control of the leg.
Selezniak is trying to control. Trotter wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Trotter wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Selezniak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

The fight stays on the outside here - Selezniak looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Trotter doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Trotter drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Selezniak gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Trotter stuffs the takedown attempt from Selezniak. Selezniak gets slowly back to his feet.
Selezniak looks for a takedown but Trotter sprawls well.
Trotter looks to land a combination but Selezniak avoids it well.
Selezniak throws a series of punches but Trotter moves out of range.
Trotter connects with a single shot there.
Selezniak tries to score a power double leg takedown but Trotter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Selezniak somewhat.
Dell Trotter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Selezniak.

and Selezniak counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Selezniak.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Trotter had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Selezniak is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Trotter Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Selezniak's back instead.
Trotter gets his hands free as Selezniak looks to control.
Trotter is punishing Selezniak with strikes - can he finish him?!
Trotter doesn't have the hooks in and Selezniak manages to turn into his guard.
Trotter throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Selezniak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trotter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jason Selezniak has got the better of the ground game so far.
Trotter wants to improve his position but instead Selezniak has moved into half guard.
Trotter wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Trotter wants to improve his position but Selezniak is controlling well.
Trotter wants to get back to full guard but Selezniak has mounted him!
Selezniak takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Selezniak is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Trotter can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Selezniak prevents Trotter from getting the reversal.
Trotter gets back to half guard.
Selezniak is trying to control. Trotter wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Selezniak landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Trotter tries to get to full guard but Selezniak has control of the leg.
Trotter makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Trotter.
Trotter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Trotter tries to strike from the bottom.
Trotter has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Selezniak has passed into side control.
Trotter misses with an elbow from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jason Selezniak comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Selezniak has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
