The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thompson scores with a takedown into Fordig's guard.
Fordig wants to stand but Thompson is controlling the position.

Thompson has gone for a leg lock! Fordig slips out almost immediately though and dives into Thompson's guard.
Fordig is fighting to break Thompson's control of his arms but Thompson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Fordig is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Thompson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Fordig stacks Thompson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Fordig!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fordig stands up and we're back to a striking position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Thompson shoots in but no luck this time.

Fordig drives through and clinches with Thompson against the cage.
Fordig tries to land a knee to the head but Thompson blocks with his arms.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fordig moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Thompson.
Thompson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fordig wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Thompson shoots in for a takedown but Fordig shows good takedown defense.

Fordig wants to clinch

and Thompson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Fordig's guard.

Fordig is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Fordig passes into side control, despite Thompson's attempt to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thompson wants to get back to his feet.
