PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between jose reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerry Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jerry Shields told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, jose reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jerry Shields!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

reyes instigates a clinch.
Shields has reyes pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. reyes manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Shields wants a takedown.

Shields turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
reyes parries the strikes from Shields easily there. Shields is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable reyes to escape.
Sloppy strikes there by Shields.
reyes gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Shields cracks reyes with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Shields looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
reyes tries to buck Shields off but he can't manage it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
reyes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
reyes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shields on the ground.
Shields putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
reyes tries to hold on but Shields pushes him away.

Shields working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Shields looks gassed!

reyes is trying desperately to improve position.
reyes is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

reyes defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Shields.
Shields fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Shields is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. reyes can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
reyes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if reyes tries to get out of the position.
reyes is looking to improve his position but Shields isn't that keen on the idea.

Shields jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but reyes manages to avoid the submission attempt.
reyes can't do much from the bottom here.

Shields advances to mount.
reyes is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Shields lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
reyes is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Shields working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. reyes turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Shields off and cradles reyes's limp body as Shields celebrates with his corner.
