The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suomela misses with a takedown attempt - Goulart sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Suomela tries to score a power double leg takedown but Goulart sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Suomela somewhat.
Goulart stuffs the takedown.
Joao Goulart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seppo Suomela.

Goulart throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Suomela sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Goulart rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Suomela moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Suomela closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Suomela lands in his opponent's guard.
Suomela throws and elbow that misses. Goulart uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Suomela's guard. Nice move by Goulart!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Suomela holds on and takes a little breather.
Suomela looking to hit a scissor sweep but Goulart is one step ahead there.
Suomela is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Suomela is trying to control Goulart's posture but Goulart avoids it.
Suomela is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Goulart tries for a kimura but Suomela is defending well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Goulart bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Suomela's head.
Suomela takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Goulart rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Suomela moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Goulart lands a left and a right that sends Suomela crashing to the canvas! Goulart dives into mount looking to finish!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
