PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Abraham Valuev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zeljko Poutintsev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Abraham Valuev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zeljko Poutintsev!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valuev avoids a punch combination nicely.
Poutintsev throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Poutintsev gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
A short uppercut from Valuev.
Poutintsev is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Valuev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Poutintsev misses with a double jab.
Poutintsev stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

It looks like Abraham Valuev has been cut.

Poutintsev looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Poutintsev is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Valuev holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Valuev pushes Poutintsev off looking to stand but Poutintsev dives back in and keeps control.

Valuev on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Valuev moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Poutintsev trying to control but Valuev is working from the bottom.

Poutintsev decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Valuev checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Poutintsev tries to bum rush Valuev with a series of wild strikes but Valuev uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Poutintsev throws a right and a left that both miss.
Valuev closes the distance and clinches up with Poutintsev, looking for a takedown. Valuev pushes Poutintsev against the cage but Poutintsev circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Valuev tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Poutintsev paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Valuev ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Valuev fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Abraham Valuev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Valuev shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Valuev was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Valuev is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Valuev wants the takedown. Poutintsev is fighting it off but Valuev persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Poutintsev's guard against the cage.

Valuev decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Poutintsev, up you get!

Valuev closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Poutintsev did well to prevent Valuev getting side control.
Poutintsev wants to get back to his feet.
Poutintsev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Valuev is working away from the top position though.
Valuev wants to pass to mount but Poutintsev is defending the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Poutintsev tries to kick Valuev off but Valuev keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Valuev looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Poutintsev with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Valuev lands with a punch from half guard.

Valuev seems to be working for a kimura but Poutintsev defends the submission attempt.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Valuev is looking to clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Valuev pushes Poutintsev up against the cage in a clinch.
Valuev keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Poutintsev's efforts to push away.

Valuev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Poutintsev will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Zeljko Poutintsev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Poutintsev throws a low kick but it's checked well by Valuev.

Valuev scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Valuev decides to stand and escape the position.

Poutintsev gets caught flat footed, as Valuev shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Valuev works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Valuev seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Poutintsev wants to control but Valuev is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Valuev is trying to control. Poutintsev wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Valuev stands up out of the half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Valuev misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Poutintsev is wriggling around but Valuev manages to pass to half guard.
Valuev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Poutintsev keeps working.

Valuev stands up and beckons Poutintsev to join him on the feet.
Valuev moves in looking to clinch but Poutintsev pushes him off.

and Valuev counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Valuev is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Valuev gets to his feet. Poutintsev looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Valuev gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Poutintsev counters by clinching up.

Valuev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Poutintsev throws a combination that misses

and Valuev counters with a nice double leg into side control. Poutintsev won't be happy with that.

Valuev tries for a kimura but Poutintsev is defending well.
Poutintsev wants to get back to his feet but Valuev drags him back down.
Valuev will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Valuev has hold of Poutintsev's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Poutintsev tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Valuev cranks the arm and Poutintsev screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Poutintsev, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Abraham Valuev!
