PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mikael Koskinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miguel Wewito (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wewito has chosen Had Enough as his entrance music. Miguel Wewito is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikael Koskinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Miguel Wewito!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wewito fails to land with a series of punches.
Wewito takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Wewito cracks Koskinen with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.


It looks like Mikael Koskinen has been cut.
Koskinen leaves Wewito with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Koskinen thuds a left hand into Wewito's body.

Koskinen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Wewito wants to try and get back to his feet.
Wewito looks gassed!

Koskinen looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Koskinen looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Koskinen has control of Wewito's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Wewito regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Wewito really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Koskinen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Koskinen postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Wewito looks a forlorn figure.
Wewito is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Koskinen has control of Wewito's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Wewito regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Koskinen jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Wewito manages to avoid the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Wewito is pushing Koskinen's head away, looking to escape. Koskinen manages to hold on to the position though.
Koskinen wants to control but Wewito is keeping him busy.
Wewito can't do much from the bottom here.

Koskinen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Koskinen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wewito avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Koskinen.

Koskinen fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Koskinen works to advance to full mount. Wewito defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Koskinen looking to ground and pound but Wewito is blocking nicely.
Koskinen trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Koskinen sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Koskinen is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Wewito can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Wewito holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Koskinen tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Poor strikes thrown by Koskinen there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Wewito is squirming around, avoiding Koskinen's attempts to control the action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Koskinen scores with a hook to the body. Wewito takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Wewito closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wewito lands in his opponent's guard.

Koskinen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Wewito got a little sloppy there for a moment and Koskinen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wewito has managed to get both his arms back between Koskinen's legs - danger averted.
Koskinen tries to strike from the bottom.

Koskinen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wewito gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Koskinen isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Wewito stacks Koskinen on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Wewito!
You can see the frustration on Koskinen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wewito avoids the strikes from the bottom by Koskinen.

Wewito stands up and beckons Koskinen to his feet.
Wewito changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Koskinen tries to avoid it but Wewito manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Koskinen to the ground. Koskinen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wewito throws a right and a left that both miss.
Koskinen keeps the fight on the outside.

Koskinen looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Wewito is working to get back to half guard.
Koskinen thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Koskinen looking to ground and pound but Wewito is blocking nicely.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Koskinen working for a guillotine from mount but Wewito is in no mood to give up.
Wewito is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Wewito is looking to improve his position but Koskinen isn't that keen on the idea.

Koskinen goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Wewito is on top in guard.
Wewito stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Koskinen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Koskinen checks the leg kick.
Wewito fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wewito walks into a left hand.
Koskinen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wewito misses with a two punch combination.
A punch combination from Wewito misses.
Koskinen lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Wewito takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Wewito is looking to clinch but Koskinen is avoiding it.
Nice jab there from Koskinen.
A combination from Wewito does no damage.

Koskinen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Koskinen is landing with some decent strikes but Wewito is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Koskinen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wewito is looking to escape.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Koskinen with a couple of short strikes.
Koskinen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Miguel Wewito has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Koskinen with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Koskinen swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Wewito is now in Koskinen's guard. A big mistake from Koskinen there, giving up the dominant position!

Koskinen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Koskinen looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Wewito tries to stand but Koskinen is controlling from the bottom.
Koskinen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wewito is one step ahead there.
Koskinen is trying to keep Wewito in close.
Wewito must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Koskinen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wewito can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Koskinen throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Mikael Koskinen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Koskinen controls Wewito momentarily but Wewito frees himself.
Wewito is fighting to break Koskinen's control of his arms but Koskinen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mikael Koskinen showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Koskinen has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
