PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juan Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harri Vahva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez comes to the cage accompanied by Christina Aguilera - Dirrty. Vahva has chosen Hammerfall - Let the Hammer Fall as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Juan Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Harri Vahva!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vahva will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sanchez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Vahva fails in his attempt to clinch.
Vahva connects with a body shot.
Vahva scores with a sloppy right hand. Sanchez should have avoided that one.
Vahva cracks Sanchez with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vahva tries to bum rush Sanchez with a series of wild strikes but Sanchez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Sanchez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Sanchez is fighting to break Vahva's control of his arms but Vahva is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

You can see the frustration on Sanchez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sanchez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vahva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Vahva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sanchez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vahva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sanchez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sanchez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vahva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Vahva wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.

Vahva gets to his feet. Sanchez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Good exchange - Vahva coming out on top.
Vahva looks to land a combination but Sanchez avoids it well.

Sanchez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sanchez drops back looking for a leg! Vahva is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vahva manages to kick Sanchez off! Sanchez jumps back into Vahva's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vahva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sanchez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Vahva is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harri Vahva dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sanchez had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Vahva is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sanchez Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Vahva's back instead.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sanchez with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Vahva to score with a decent uppercut.

Vahva throws a left that rocks Sanchez and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Vahva dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Sanchez regain composure!

Sanchez is not content to let Vahva control the position.
Vahva looks up at the clock and then as Sanchez takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Vahva smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Juan Sanchez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sanchez takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Sanchez is working to avoid the ground and pound but Vahva connects with a decent elbow.
Vahva remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
