PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wanderson Marua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Leal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leal comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Papa Roach - Last Resort kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Matheus Silva.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leal throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Marua.
Nice takedown defense from Marua. No joy for Leal on that attempt.
Leal avoids the head kick by Marua.
Marua tries to bum rush Leal with a series of wild strikes but Leal uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
The fight stays on the outside here - Leal looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Marua clinches.

Marua escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Marua moves in looking to clinch but Leal pushes him off.
Leal shoots in looking for a takedown. Marua tries to sprawl out of it but Leal keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Marua manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Marua throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Leal shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Marua's guard.
Marua not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Leal thows a big elbow that misses.

Leal is looking to stand up but Marua won't let him.
Leal working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Leal throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Leal trying to control the position from guard on top but Marua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Marua working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Leal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Leal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Leal throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Marua works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Marua preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Marua had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Leal is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Marua Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Leal's back instead.
Leal is trying to get back to his feet but Marua has full control of the position and if anything, Leal has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Leal is taking damage to the body and head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leal looks gassed!

Marua is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Leal with him. Leal is trying to defend but Marua has an arm under the chin now! Leal grimaces and is forced to tap out!
