PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Beanie Sigel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Beanie Sigel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Jacobs!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sigel paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Jacobs rushes Sigel and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jacobs digs a right hand underneath Sigel's ribcage. Sigel let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Jacobs tries to pull guard but Sigel holds him up against the cage and eventually Jacobs drops back down to his feet.

Jacobs breaks the clinch.
Sigel throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sigel with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Jacobs to score with a decent uppercut.
Beanie Sigel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jacobs takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Sigel walks into a straight right hand from Jacobs.
Sigel takes a swing at Jacobs's ribcage but misses.

Jacobs bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Jacobs is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sigel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jacobs thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Jacobs wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sigel keeps working.

Jacobs throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Jacobs with the ground and pound but Sigel regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Jacobs tries to pass to full mount but Sigel defends it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jacobs drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sigel looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sigel looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sigel!
Sigel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jacobs on the ground.
Jacobs is trying to get back to half guard.
Jacobs is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Sigel decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jacobs to his feet.
Jacobs missing with a left hand there. Sigel was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Jacobs shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Sigel keeping moving, preventing Jacobs from controlling successfully.
Jacobs is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Jacobs throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sigel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sigel throws a nice looking combination but Jacobs bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Jacobs ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jacobs no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Jacobs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sigel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sigel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sigel on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Jacobs throws an overhand right that lands on Sigel's shoulder, as Sigel tries to avoid the shot.
Jacobs takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Jacobs steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sigel.

Jacobs scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jacobs throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

enabling Jacobs to counter with a crisp jab.
Sigel is looking to wear down Jacobs with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Jacobs moves in looking to clinch but Sigel pushes him off.
Jacobs cracks Sigel with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Jacobs lands with a shot to the body.
Sigel misses with the combination.
Sigel throws a left and a right that both miss
and Jacobs counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jacobs darts in and clinches Sigel up against the cage.

Sigel has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jacobs is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jacobs looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sigel puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

A close second round but Ryan Jacobs will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Sigel is defending against the submission attempts here by Jacobs.
Jacobs is keen to just control but Sigel is a slippery customer.

Jacobs is working for a kimura but Sigel is defending it quite comfortably.
Ryan Jacobs is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jacobs perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Let's hope that Jacobs has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ryan Jacobs just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

enabling Jacobs to counter with a crisp jab.
Sigel lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Sigel throws a nice looking combination but Jacobs bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Jacobs lands a nice hook to Sigel's body. Sigel takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Jacobs cracks Sigel with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Sigel fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Sigel misses with a looping right.
Jacobs ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Sigel misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Ryan Jacobs comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jacobs winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
