PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex DeLarge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeLarge comes to the cage accompanied by You Shot Me Down by Nancy Sinatra. King has chosen These Fighting Words as his entrance music. Darren King told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex DeLarge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darren King!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King avoids the body shot from DeLarge.
DeLarge looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? King is fending him off so far but DeLarge persists. Nope, King circles away and we're back to standing.

King gets in close and instigates a clinch.
King tries for a takedown. No joy.
DeLarge looking to slow down the pace here.
DeLarge tries to pull guard but King won't allow it.
DeLarge fails to pull the fight into his guard.

and DeLarge counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
DeLarge looking to pass the guard.
King is looking to stand back up but DeLarge counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by King.

King tries to roll over but DeLarge keeps him under control.
DeLarge trying to control the action but King is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DeLarge passes to side control.

DeLarge wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by King, who protects the arm well.

DeLarge working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

DeLarge thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
DeLarge trying to control the action but King is working from the bottom.

DeLarge goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, King rolls with the submission and now he's on top in DeLarge's guard! Nice work there by King!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

DeLarge escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. King gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
DeLarge looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
DeLarge manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
DeLarge tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
DeLarge with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


DeLarge slips a jab and a cross from King.
King tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
King misses with a two punch combination.
King tries to clinch up but DeLarge circles away and keeps his distance.
DeLarge tries for a takedown but King sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

DeLarge shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
DeLarge trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

DeLarge stands and throws King's legs to the side, diving into side control.

DeLarge goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, King rolls with the submission and now he's on top in DeLarge's guard! Nice work there by King!

DeLarge is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and King defends well.
DeLarge is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
DeLarge is trying to control the position but King postures up.
King stopping the sweep attempt from DeLarge.

DeLarge wants to sweep here but King controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
DeLarge is looking to clinch.
King tries to close the distance and clinch up but DeLarge swats him away and circles back towards the center.

King misses with a hook from the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on King's face as he tries to break the clinch.

King tries to break free but DeLarge pushes him back against the cage.
DeLarge is trying to stall.
King stops a takedown attempt from DeLarge.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
DeLarge has a couple of punches blocked by King.
DeLarge tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

DeLarge changes levels and goes for a takedown here. King fights it off and pushes away nicely.
DeLarge swats away the attempt to clinch by King.
DeLarge misses with a head kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
King doesn't manage to clinch there - DeLarge circles away.
DeLarge tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
King lands a jab to DeLarge's midsection.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alex DeLarge will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


King fails in his attempt to clinch.
King throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck DeLarge on the side of the head.
DeLarge is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and King counters with a two punch combo.

King moves in looking to clinch but DeLarge pushes him off.

DeLarge is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
King takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
King keeping full guard, as DeLarge tries to pass.

DeLarge trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

DeLarge drops back, looking for a kneebar! King looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. King looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from King!
DeLarge is looking for a sweep.
DeLarge manages to get back to half guard.
DeLarge makes his way to full guard. A much better position for DeLarge.
DeLarge pulls King in to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King wants to pass the guard but DeLarge is keeping the position.

DeLarge is looking to sinch up a triangle. King throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to DeLarge's body to avoid the submission. DeLarge has instead reached around King's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! DeLarge arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Alex DeLarge!
