The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shirou Masuda and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Mexes with that takedown attempt.
Anderson Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva clinches up with Mexes and pushes him back against the ropes.
Silva tries a knee to the head but Mexes blocks it.
Mexes pulls guard effortlessly.
Silva wants to get up but he can't break Mexes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Mexes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mexes is looking for a triangle but Silva pushes his legs off easily.
Mexes is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Silva frees his head nicely. Oh but Mexes has switched to an armbar! Silva is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
