Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Heller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brenno Penna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penna has chosen APOCALYPSE NOW as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penna closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Heller is trying to improve his position.
Heller manages to get back to half guard.

Heller is defending against the submission attempts here by Penna.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penna throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Heller moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Heller is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Penna is aware though and is defending well.

Penna is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Heller had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Penna is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Heller Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Penna's back instead.

Heller has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Heller doesn't have the hooks in and Penna manages to turn into his guard.

Heller throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Heller is breathing heavily.
Penna stands and throws Heller's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Penna tries for a kimura but Heller is defending well.

Penna tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Penna has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Heller is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Penna decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Heller moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Penna shoots in for a takedown but Heller shows good takedown defense.
Heller stuffs the takedown.
Heller dips to his left and cracks Penna with an uppercut!
Penna blocks a jab.
Heller misses with a body shot.
Heller throws the left hand but Penna avoids the punch easily.

Penna drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Penna has gone for a leg lock! Heller slips out almost immediately though and dives into Penna's guard.

Penna is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Heller defends well.
Heller sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Penna's guard.

Heller lands with a punch from half guard.
Penna avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Heller.

Heller is looking for a kimura but Penna is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Heller to get the leverage.
Penna is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Heller's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Heller's back!
Heller rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
