The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez tries for a takedown but Vandelay sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Vandelay scores a takedown into full mount!
Vandelay stands up from mount. Strange move.
Vandelay closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vandelay lands in his opponent's guard.
Vandelay is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sanchez is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sanchez has escaped and now he's on top!

Vandelay has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sanchez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Vandelay.
Vandelay is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Sanchez has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Sanchez is breathing heavily.
Vandelay tries to roll over but Sanchez keeps him under control.
Sanchez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vandelay defends it well.
The fighters are battling for position here. Vandelay manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Vandelay is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Vandelay has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanchez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Vandelay bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanchez's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vandelay passes Sanchez's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sanchez is staying active underneath Vandelay, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Vandelay decides to stand and escape the position.
Vandelay closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Vandelay has hold of Sanchez's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Sanchez tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Vandelay cranks the arm and Sanchez screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Sanchez, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
