Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Shogun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruno Xavier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Shogun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Xavier!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Xavier tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shogun sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Xavier somewhat.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Shogun - that will leave a mark!
Shogun throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Xavier is defended easily by Shogun.
Xavier looks gassed!
Xavier shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shogun defends it nicely.
Mauricio Shogun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruno Xavier.
Shogun lands with a nice body kick.

Shogun lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Shogun is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Xavier throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shogun works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Shogun is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Xavier thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Shogun lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Xavier!

Xavier tries to reverse the position but Shogun maintains control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Xavier is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Xavier has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shogun breaks from Xavier's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Xavier has hold of Shogun's hands but Shogun slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Shogun seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Xavier is refusing to be controlled, as Shogun sits in half guard.
Xavier is trying to control but can't.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Xavier shoots for a double leg takedown but Shogun sprawls well. He's pushed Xavier's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Xavier.
Shogun shoots in for a takedown but Xavier shows good takedown defense.
Shogun throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Xavier's waist but Xavier gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shogun off to one side.

Shogun gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Xavier to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Shogun is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mauricio Shogun dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Xavier shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Shogun napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Xavier connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Shogun some visible discomfort.
The referee asks Xavier politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Xavier prefers to stall for the moment though.
Xavier creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Shogun is looking to get back to his feet here but Xavier is keeping cool and he's managed to take Shogun's back.
Xavier scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Shogun is looking for a way out.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Xavier connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Shogun to escape the position.

Xavier is punishing Shogun with strikes - can he finish him?!
Xavier cracks Shogun with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Shogun from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Xavier working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Shogun is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Xavier has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Shogun taps out!
