The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maskida avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Sutherland pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Oh, that's a big right hand from Maskida and Sutherland goes tumbling to the canvas! Maskida follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.

It looks like Mason Sutherland has been cut.
Sutherland manages to get to full guard.

Maskida drops back looking for a leg! Sutherland is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sutherland manages to kick Maskida off! Maskida jumps back into Sutherland's guard.

Maskida drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Maskida jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sutherland had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Maskida is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sutherland Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Maskida's back instead.

Sutherland is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Maskida tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Sutherland stands up from mount. Strange move.
Sutherland looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Maskida lands a left and a right that sends Sutherland crashing to the canvas! Maskida dives into mount looking to finish!

Maskida working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Sutherland looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Maskida! Submission of the night perhaps?
