PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fuego Salsa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benny Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Fuego Salsa has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Fuego Salsa seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fuego Salsa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Benny Jones!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Ivan Kurochkin and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salsa wants to clinch.
Salsa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.
Jones throws a wild body kick that Salsa sees coming a mile off.
Salsa wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance.
Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Salsa.

Salsa fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jones sprawls well initially but Salsa persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jones is looking to improve his position.
Salsa is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Salsa prevents Jones from standing back up.

Salsa is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.
Salsa working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Jones's thigh. Jones counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Salsa shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fuego Salsa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Salsa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Salsa is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jones is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jones has escaped and now he's on top!

Salsa isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Jones stacks Salsa on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Jones!

Salsa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jones defends well.

Salsa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Salsa slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Salsa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Salsa has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
