PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tupac Saulnier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Captain Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tupac Saulnier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Captain Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saulnier shoots in looking for a takedown. Gracie tries to sprawl out of it but Saulnier keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gracie manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice takedown defense from Saulnier. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.
Saulnier misses with a head kick.

and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Let's hope that Gracie has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Saulnier wants to improve his position but Gracie is controlling well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Saulnier regains full guard. Nicely done.
Gracie seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Despite being in the dominant position, Captain Gracie just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Despite being in the dominant position, Captain Gracie just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Saulnier as he jumps to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Saulnier has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Saulnier is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Saulnier misses with some strikes from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Saulnier throws a lazy right hand but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Saulnier looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gracie is staying tight to Saulnier's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Captain Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Gracie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Saulnier's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

I've got Gracie winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
