PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Will Fower (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Slaughter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fower has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Will Fower!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Slaughter!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Franklyn Lucas and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slaughter scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Fower is breathing heavily.
Slaughter tries to pass to full mount but Fower defends it.

Slaughter wants to work for an arm triangle but Fower is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Slaughter is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fower doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Slaughter.

Slaughter is trying to work for a kimura but Fower is defending well.
Slaughter is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Slaughter jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Fower is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Fower and Slaughter has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Fower is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Slaughter wants to work for an arm triangle but Fower is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Slaughter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's time! Fower's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Fower closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Slaughter closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Slaughter is working for a kimura but Fower is defending it quite comfortably.
Slaughter frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Slaughter moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Fower has worked his arm free - good work by Fower!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fower tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Slaughter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Slaughter tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Slaughter goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Fower has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Slaughter but great work by Fower.
Slaughter tries to bench press Fower off him but Fower keeps the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Slaughter manages to work his way to half guard, despite Fower's best efforts.

Fower trying to mount his opponent but Slaughter defends it.

Fower trying to control but Slaughter is working from the bottom.

Fower avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Joe Slaughter has got the better of the ground game so far.

Slaughter has his foot on Fower's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fower works his way back into a safe position though.
Fower could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Fower with a flurry of punches that miss.
Fower trying to control the position from guard on top but Slaughter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Slaughter looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Fower gets to his feet. Slaughter looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Slaughter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fower circles away.

Slaughter drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fower dives on top into guard.

Slaughter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fower doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fower manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Slaughter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Fower's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Fower stuffs the takedown attempt from Slaughter. Slaughter gets slowly back to his feet.
Slaughter has a takedown stuffed.
Fower goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slaughter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Will Fower has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Slaughter.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Fower looks for the body kick but Slaughter saw that one coming.
Fower swats away the attempt to clinch by Slaughter.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Slaughter is working for takedown but Fower is calmly controlling the position for now.
Slaughter is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Slaughter tries to break the clinch but Fower is controlling the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Fower breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fower thows a body kick. Slaughter tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Slaughter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Slaughter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fower is fending him off so far but Slaughter persists. Nope, Fower circles away and we're back to standing.
Will Fower is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fower misses with a takedown

and Slaughter counters with a single leg into guard. Fower didn't expect that.

Fower is looking to stand up but Slaughter isn't so interested in that idea.
Fower is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Slaughter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Slaughter tries to free his leg and advance position but Fower is retaining full guard.

Slaughter drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fower manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Slaughter has Fower in his guard.

Slaughter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fower can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Slaughter had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Fower is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Slaughter Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Fower's back instead.

Fower defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
Will Fower has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Joe Slaughter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Fower throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Slaughter works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Joe Slaughter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Slaughter winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
