PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Dubois (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dubois is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Attitude from Sepultura. Christopher Dubois is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Belfort!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Christopher Dubois!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belfort throws a series of punches but Dubois moves out of range.
Dubois looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Belfort scores with a takedown into Dubois's guard.
Belfort trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Belfort throwing strikes but missing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Belfort decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Belfort clinches up with Dubois and pushes him back against the cage.
Belfort stalling in the clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Belfort.
Belfort lands a hook that snaps the head of Dubois backwards.
Belfort working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Belfort has Dubois pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Belfort pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Dubois tumbling to the mat - Belfort dives into Dubois's guard.

Belfort is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belfort with a flurry of punches that miss.

Belfort lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Belfort stands up and waves to Dubois to follow him.
Belfort misses with a series of wild punches.

Belfort shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Belfort with a couple of short strikes.

Belfort wants to finish this one by submission but Dubois is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Belfort.
Belfort can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dubois is looking to escape.

Belfort gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Belfort shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Belfort was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Belfort goes for an armbar but Dubois turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Dubois.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Belfort wants to sweep here but Dubois controlling him for the moment.
Belfort is trying to control the position but Dubois postures up.

Dubois thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Belfort keeping moving, preventing Dubois from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Belfort throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dubois sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Horrible takedown by Dubois or perhaps it was just good defense by Belfort which made him look bad.
Belfort throws a right and a left that Dubois avoids nicely.
Belfort misses with a double jab.
Belfort is looking to clinch.

Belfort fails to land with a series of punches.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dubois fails with an attempt to clinch.

Belfort closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Belfort in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Belfort working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Belfort thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Belfort is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dubois knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Dubois throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Belfort is working for a kimura but Dubois is defending it quite comfortably.
Dubois is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Belfort's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Belfort's back!

Dubois is trying to control. Belfort wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Belfort is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Belfort misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Belfort clinches up with Dubois and pushes him back against the cage.
Belfort wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dubois has him pressed against the cage.
Belfort makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Dubois drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Belfort gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Belfort keeps control of Dubois as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Belfort misses with an elbow over the top.
Dubois has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Belfort avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Vitor Belfort has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christopher Dubois.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dubois's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Belfort turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Belfort manages to end up in side control.
Belfort cracks Dubois with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Belfort swings around for an armbar but Dubois sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Belfort's guard.

Belfort has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dubois can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Belfort bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dubois's guard.

Belfort looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Dubois is defending against the submission attempts here by Belfort.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Belfort is looking to take a break and control but Dubois is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Belfort stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Belfort goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Dubois gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Belfort counters with a shoot takedown. Dubois fights it but they end up in guard.

Well Belfort has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
