PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Badaz Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Drago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Rutten might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Daddy Cool by Boney M. Wow!!! Very cool music!!!. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Badaz Rutten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Drago!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drago changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rutten tries to avoid it but Drago manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rutten to the ground. Rutten escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Drago will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Drago slips a jab from Rutten.
Rutten is looking to slow Drago down with leg kicks.
Badaz Rutten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Drago looks gassed!
A head kick misses from Rutten.
Drago shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rutten but Rutten pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Badaz Rutten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Drago.
Rutten misses with a series of wild punches.
Drago slips under a jab from Rutten.
Rutten misses with an attempted mid kick.
Rutten tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rutten lands a nice looking kick to the body. Drago takes a step back to recover.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Badaz Rutten is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Rutten feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Drago's calf.
Rutten misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rutten throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rutten swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Drago looks for a takedown but Rutten sprawls well.
Rutten tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Drago was well out of range. Poor timing from Rutten.
Drago is trying desperately to land a takedown but Rutten is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Drago.
Rutten turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Rutten lands a head kick!


It looks like Alex Drago has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Drago shoots in but no luck this time.
Rutten tests Drago's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Rutten lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Drago slips a jab from Rutten.
Rutten lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Rutten throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rutten throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A punch combination from Rutten misses.
Rutten dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Drago. That did some damage!
Rutten throws a head kick but Drago moves out of range.
Nice sprawl there from Rutten as Drago shoots in.
Rutten misses the shot to the body.
Rutten misses with a two punch combination.
Drago blocks a leg kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Drago.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rutten is not content to let Drago control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rutten is trying to get back to half guard.
Rutten is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Drago off and has taken his back!

Rutten tightening his grip on Drago, looking for the choke.

Drago is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Rutten is persistently looking for the submission but Drago is defending it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Drago rolls, trying to escape but Rutten keeps control of the position.
Rutten is not going to allow Drago to sit and survive in this position.

Rutten looking to break Drago's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Drago remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Rutten will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Rutten is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Drago has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rutten tries to get the hooks in deep but Drago pushed the leg off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Badaz Rutten dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Alex Drago's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Drago shoots for a double leg takedown but Rutten sprawls well. He's pushed Drago's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rutten looks to land a combination but Drago avoids it well.
Rutten chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Rutten is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Drago on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Rutten. Rutten obviously looking to wear him down.
Drago needs to keep his hands up - Rutten had a free shot at his head there.
Rutten throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Drago shoots in and drives through. Rutten sprawls well.
Badaz Rutten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Drago.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Drago takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Drago takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Rutten scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Rutten bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Rutten throws a body kick that misses.

Drago drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rutten manages to work his way to half guard, despite Drago's best efforts.
Drago throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Drago is trying to control the action in half guard but Rutten is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Rutten makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rutten.
Rutten is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rutten has his foot on Drago's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Drago works his way back into a safe position though.
Drago won't allow Rutten to sweep him here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rutten throws a chopping leg kick but Drago manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Rutten throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Drago's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Drago scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
You can see the frustration on Rutten's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Drago has hold of Rutten's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Rutten seems comfortable defending it but Drago has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Rutten is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Rutten is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Drago couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Alex Drago!
