Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between nick rater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and bubba sparx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
sparx fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches rater on the side of the head.
sparx throws a head kick that misses.

rater takes the fight into the clinch.
sparx tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. rater just stands there and leans against the cage.
sparx is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
sparx fails to pull guard.

rater gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
sparx trying to control from the bottom.
rater content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

rater seems to be looking for submissions.
sparx trying to hold on to rater's head to control him but rater postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

sparx tries to improve position but can't.
sparx gets back to half guard.
rater trying to control the action but sparx is working from the bottom.
sparx wants to control but rater is keeping busy.
rater is looking to take a break and control but sparx is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

rater content to control rather than advance.

sparx is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but rater pulls his head out easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and rater moves into the clinch.
rater with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
sparx changes levels and goes for a takedown here. rater fights it off and pushes away nicely.

sparx drops down looking for an ankle pick but rater pulls his leg out and moves away.

and rater counters with a nice double leg into side control. sparx won't be happy with that.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

sparx wants to clinch but rater slips to the side

and rater counters with a shoot takedown. sparx fights it but they end up in guard.

rater decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

rater trying to control the position from guard on top but sparx is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

rater tries to free his leg and advance position but sparx is retaining full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
rater postures up.
sparx wants to sweep but no luck.
sparx controls rater momentarily but rater frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
sparx tries for a takedown but rater circles away easily

and rater counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by rater.
sparx is breathing heavily.
sparx wants to stand but rater is controlling the position.
sparx keeping moving, preventing rater from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

rater sitting in guard, not really doing much.
sparx wants to sweep but no luck.
rater stays in close to sparx's body and controls the position.
sparx pulls rater in close to prevent any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

sparx isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. rater stacks sparx on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by rater!
sparx tries to buck rater off but rater is having none of it.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

rater shoots in and bounces sparx off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
sparx wants to sweep here but rater controlling him for the moment.

sparx working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. rater doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. rater manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
sparx has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but rater has passed into side control.
sparx takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

rater is trying to get an arm triangle but sparx is defending well.

You can see the frustration on sparx's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
nick rater overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
sparx prevents rater from improving position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
rater shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts sparx as he jumps to the side.
