Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Mike Hunt has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Hunt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Hunt or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad.
Hunt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hunt off to one side.
Nice takedown defense from Johnson. No joy for Hunt on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Hunt. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hunt feints and as Johnson raises his hands in defense, Hunt changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Johnson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hunt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hunt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Johnson is going olschool here, as he tries to force Hunt to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hunt shrugs it off.

Hunt has given up his back.
Johnson is trying to stick to Hunt's back but Hunt is turning into Johnson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Johnson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Hunt.
Johnson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hunt manages to get himself to full guard.

Johnson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hunt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hunt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Johnson is trying to maintain the position but Hunt is very close to passing his half guard.

Hunt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hunt keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Johnson's head.

Hunt postures up in Johnson's guard and throws a big left but Johnson blocks it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hunt has a takedown stuffed.
Hunt changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to avoid it but Hunt manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnson to the ground. Johnson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Hunt defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Johnson.
Johnson blocks Hunt's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Johnson takes Hunt's back.
Hunt breaks Johnson's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Hunt is working Johnson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Johnson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hunt throws out the jab.

Hunt is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Johnson's half guard.

Hunt has gone for a leg lock! Johnson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hunt's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson drops back looking for a leg! Hunt is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hunt manages to kick Johnson off! Johnson jumps back into Hunt's guard.
Hunt will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Hunt throws a nice elbow from the bottom.
John Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hunt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
