PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lou Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Fontana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lou Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Fontana!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Carter.
Carter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Fontana will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Fontana closes the distance and clinches up with Carter, looking for a takedown. Fontana pushes Carter against the cage but Carter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Fontana avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Carter wants to clinch up but Fontana keeps it at a distance.
Fontana throws a series of punches but Carter avoids them all with ease.
Carter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Fontana counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Fontana.

Carter wants to sweep here but Fontana controlling him for the moment.
Carter is pulling down on Fontana's head to control his posture.
Fontana wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.
Carter lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fontana!

Fontana wants to hold on but Carter pushes him away.
Carter trying to control but he's not successful this time.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Poor strikes thrown by Carter there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Carter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fontana on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carter avoids the attempt from Fontana to control.
Fontana sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Fontana trying to hold on to Carter's head to control him but Carter postures up.
Fontana keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carter tries to pass the half guard into mount. Fontana knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Fontana kicks Carter off and gets back to his feet.
Carter looks to land a combination but Fontana avoids it well.
Fontana has a takedown stuffed.
Lou Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Fontana.
Carter stalks Fontana and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Fontana's face. Fontana staggers backwards, shaken.
Carter is breathing heavily.
An inside leg kick from Carter misses.
Fontana tries to clinch

so Carter counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Fontana is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Carter is controlling him.
Fontana trying to keep a closed guard but Carter is proving a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lou Carter will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Carter shoots for a double leg takedown but Fontana sprawls well. He's pushed Carter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Carter stuffs the takedown.

Fontana closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Carter to the mat! Carter manages to get full guard.
Carter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fontana is one step ahead there.
Fontana wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.
Carter throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Fontana decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Carter, up you get!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fontana tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carter swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fontana tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Carter swivels and escapes.

Carter lands a nice shot to the body.

Fontana gets the takedown into side control.
Carter gets back to half guard.

Fontana decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Fontana on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Fontana shoots and misses
and Carter counters with a thumping low kick.
Lou Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Fontana.

Carter gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Carter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Fontana won't allow Carter to pass to mount.
Fontana has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carter is working away from the top position though.
Fontana looks like he's trying to stand up.
Fontana won't allow Carter to pass to mount.

Fontana is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Carter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Carter's back!
Fontana is riding his opponent, not letting Carter buck him off.
Carter wants to get back to his feet.

Fontana trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Carter doesn't escape.
Carter turns into Fontana and is now in his guard.

Fontana pushes Carter off and scrambles back to his feet.
Fontana closes the distance but Carter moves to the side
and Carter counters with a stiff right hand.
Fontana fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Fontana is looking to clinch.
Carter throws a nice looking combination but Fontana bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Carter throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Fontana looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Carter!
Fontana looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Carter tries to reverse the position but Fontana maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Fontana showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fight stays on the outside here - Fontana looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Fontana wants to clinch up but Carter keeps it at a distance.
Carter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fontana paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Carter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fontana tries to avoid it but Carter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fontana to the ground. Fontana escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Carter counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Nice straight punches there by Fontana. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Fontana.
Carter plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
A bone on bone clash there as Fontana blocks the leg kick.
Fontana tries for a takedown but Carter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Fontana drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Fontana is trying to get an arm triangle but Carter is defending well.
Carter is trying to improve his position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Carter tries to escape but Fontana is in control.
Check out the look on Fontana's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Fontana content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Carter struggling a bit here.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Carter is being controlled here.

Fontana stands up and beckons Carter to his feet.

Fontana closes the distance and clinches.
Fontana is trying to drag Carter to the mat but Carter just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Fontana connects with a knee to the head.

Carter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fontana fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Fontana is looking to clinch but Carter is avoiding it.

Fontana wants to clinch.
Fontana throws a right and a left that both miss.

Carter gets a takedown into half guard.
Fontana is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Carter content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Carter is keen to just control but Fontana is a slippery customer.

Carter is thwarting Fontana's attempts to control the position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Carter lands a nice short elbow.
Fontana is trying to get back to full guard.
Fontana moves into full guard.
Fontana throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steve Fontana comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Fontana has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
