PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roman Santana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shikato Hiruko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santana comes into the arena with Killer in me blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Roman Santana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shikato Hiruko!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Taro Takaoka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santana throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Santana.
Santana looks to land a body kick but Hiruko moved away.
Santana fails with an attempt to clinch.

Santana closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Santana tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Santana has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Santana thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Santana tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Hiruko wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Santana swings around for an armbar but Hiruko sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Santana's guard.

Santana is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hiruko is aware though and is defending well.
Santana is breathing heavily.
Hiruko trying to control the position from guard on top but Santana is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hiruko pushing down on Santana's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Hiruko is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Santana is just riding it out for now. Hiruko eventually gives up the hold.
Santana knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hiruko on the ground.
Santana tries to roll over but Hiruko keeps him under control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Santana looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Hiruko pushes past his half guard into mount!

Hiruko stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Hiruko closes the distance but Santana moves to the side
and Santana counters with a body kick.

Hiruko shoots in but no luck this time.
Santana is looking to clinch but Hiruko is avoiding it.
Hiruko tries to clinch up but Santana circles away and keeps his distance.
Hiruko looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hiruko throws a nice head kick!
Hiruko fails in his attempt to clinch.
Santana shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hiruko defends it nicely.

Hiruko takes a swing at Santana's ribcage but misses.
Hiruko scores with a head kick.
Santana circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hiruko wants to clinch up but Santana keeps it at a distance.
Hiruko scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Santana tries to close the distance and clinch but Hiruko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Santana throws a head kick that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Shikato Hiruko will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Hiruko wants to clinch.
Hiruko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Santana tries to avoid it but Hiruko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Santana to the ground. Santana escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hiruko tries to clinch up.
Santana tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hiruko throws a right hand that Santana ducks under and follows up with a left that Santana also avoids with ease.
Santana slips a jab and a cross from Hiruko.
Santana throws a lazy head kick
and Hiruko counters with a body kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Santana misses with a kick to the body.
Hiruko is looking to clinch but Santana is avoiding it.
Hiruko tries to clinch but Santana moves away

and Santana counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hiruko!
Hiruko slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Hiruko regains full guard. Nicely done.
Hiruko wants to get back to his feet but Santana is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Santana drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hiruko manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Santana has Hiruko in his guard.

Santana has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hiruko can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hiruko passes Santana's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Hiruko works his way into full mount!

Hiruko has control of Santana's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Santana regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Santana is in all sorts of trouble here.

Santana is trying to escape the mount but Hiruko keeps good control and instead manages to take Santana's back.

Hiruko working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Santana is doing well to defend. Hiruko seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Santana is forced to tap and this one is over!
