Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Charles Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Max Powers is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Max Powers!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Murphy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Murphy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Powers is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Murphy, into his guard.
Powers must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Murphy had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Powers is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Murphy Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Powers's back instead.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Powers wants to get up but he can't break Murphy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Murphy has his foot on Powers's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Powers works his way back into a safe position though.

Murphy isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Powers stacks Murphy on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Powers!

Murphy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Powers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Murphy has Powers in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Powers is posturing up here but Murphy has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Powers tries to roll out but it's too tight and Powers has to tap! Slick submission there by Murphy!
