The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miike closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pending to the mat! Pending manages to get full guard.
Miike postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Miike showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Miike trying to control but Pending is working from the bottom.

Pending had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Miike is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Pending Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Miike's back instead.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pending is trying to stick to Miike's back but Miike is turning into Pending. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Pending's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Miike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miike makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Miike has hold of Pending's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Pending manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Miike seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pending for as long as he can get away with.
Miike will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Miike has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pending's face.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Miike tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pending swivels and escapes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Miike bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Pending takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Miike remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Miike tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Miike has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
BOOM! Miike connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Pending is desperately trying to improve his position but Miike has a good base and remains in mount.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Miike counters with a single leg into guard. Pending didn't expect that.
Pending takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Miike drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Pending dives on top into guard.

Pending should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pending is looking to advance position but Miike has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Miike's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Miike, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
