The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jonson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sawyer sprawls well initially but Jonson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jonson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Sawyer tries to roll over but Jonson keeps him under control.
Sawyer is working hard here to advance position.

Sawyer is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Jonson pulls his head out easily.
Jonson is controlling the pace.
Sawyer wants to improve his position but Jonson is controlling well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sawyer tries for a takedown but Jonson circles away easily

so Jonson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Sawyer looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Sawyer manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jonson manages to get himself to full guard.
Sawyer won't allow Jonson to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jonson wants to sweep here but Sawyer controlling him for the moment.
Jonson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sawyer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sawyer is looking for a kimura but Jonson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sawyer to get the leverage.

Sawyer wants to work for an arm triangle but Jonson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jonson wants to sweep here but Sawyer controlling him for the moment.
Sawyer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sawyer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Sawyer tries to free his leg and advance position but Jonson is retaining full guard.

Sawyer is trying to work for a kimura but Jonson is defending well.
Jonson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sawyer is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
