Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amilton Mello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dmitri Mitia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mello comes to the cage accompanied by Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse . I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Amilton Mello!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dmitri Mitia!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mello feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mitia looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Mitia looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Mello gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Mitia throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mello lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Dmitri Mitia has been cut.

Mello forces Mitia back against the cage and clinches.

Mello has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mitia uses from the top position.
Mello throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Mitia drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mello manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mitia has Mello in his guard.

Mello gets to his feet. Mitia looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Mello drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Mello remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Mello stands up and beckons Mitia to his feet.

Mello closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mitia is trying to escape the position but Mello is controlling the position.

Mitia managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Mello.

An elbow from Mello crashes against the mat.
Mitia is looking to reverse the position.
A control attempt from Mitia but he's now mounted!

Mitia is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Mello lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Mitia wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Mitia is covering up but some of the strikes from Mello are getting through and doing damage.
Mello lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

Mello is looking for the choke from the back position but Mitia is controlling his hands well.

Mello has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Mello struggling to keep hold of the position.

Mitia is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mitia manages to reverse the position and now he's in Mello's guard. Nice work there by Mitia.

That's time! Mello's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Mello gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Mello drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mello blocks an uppercut.
Mitia goes for a takedown attempt but Mello pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Mello clinches up against the cage.
Mitia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mello is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
The referee calls for Mello to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mello throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Mitias head.

Mello breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mello explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Mello thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Mitia if he has to take too many more of those.

Mitia slips a jab and a cross from Mello.

Mello shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mello looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mello not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mitia tries to get to full guard but Mello has control of the leg.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mello in particular looking to stall.
Mello is pressing down on Mitia's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mitia is holding on for now.

Mello seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Amilton Mello overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mello throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Mello looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mitia misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Mello is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mello thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mitia's head.
Mitia wants to control but Mello is keeping busy and won't allow it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mitia is looking for a sweep. Mello is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Crunch! Mello slams his shin into Mitia's torso.

Mello looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Mitia!

Mello tries to control but Mitia wriggling away.
Mello has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mitia's face.
Mitia wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Mello drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mello accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mello's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mello sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mitia's guard.
Mitia is looking for a sweep. Mello is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mello content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mello gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

and Mello makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Mello shoots in and bounces Mitia off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Mitia is looking for a triangle but Mello pushes his legs off easily.

Mello lands a big shot there that rocks Mitia but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Well Mello has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
