PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Borrum Someer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Borrum Someer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Phil Stone!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Someer plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Phil Stone has been cut.
Someer looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Stone gets a takedown into half guard.
Someer pushes Stone off looking to stand but Stone dives back in and keeps control.
Stone missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Stone wants to control but Someer is keeping him busy.
Someer controlling the position well.
Stone is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stone is keen to just control but Someer is a slippery customer.

Stone lands strikes from half guard.
Stone wants to stand but Someer has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Someer looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Stone pushes past his half guard into mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Stone pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Stone lands with some strikes.
Stone controlling the position easily from mount.
Someer is trying desperately to improve position.
Stone has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Stone is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Someer is trying to stand.
Someer flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Stone looking to secure an arm triangle but Someer defends it well.
Someer tries to hold on but Stone pushes him away.
Stone fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Someer is working to get back to half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
BOOM! Stone connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Stone content just to control the position here.
Stone cracks Someer with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Stone lands a nice shot to the head.
Someer trying desperately to get to his feet.
Someer working to try and regain half guard.
Someer is squirming around, avoiding Stone's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Stone dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Phil Stone's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Someer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Someer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Stone has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Stone jumps guard and drags Someer to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Stone trying to control the position here.
Someer wants to pass the guard but Stone is keeping the position.
Stone can't keep his opponent in guard - Someer advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Stone has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Someer is working away from the top position though.

Someer seems to be looking for submissions.
Someer trying to control the action but Stone is working from the bottom.
Stone avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Someer.
Stone is trying to control but can't.
Stone slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Stone looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Stone looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Stone is breathing heavily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Stone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Someer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Someer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Someer stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Someer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Stone is trying to defend but Someer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Someer is taking a breather. Stone says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Someer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stone knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Stone has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Someer is working away from the top position though.
Someer wants to control but Stone is keeping him busy.
Someer tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Someer is trying to control the action in half guard but Stone is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Someer passes Stone's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Stone works his way to full guard. Good work.
Stone lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Someer!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Stone goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Someer turns into him and now he's in Stone's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Borrum Someer dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Phil Stone's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Someer moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Someer lands with a kick to the temple. Stone shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Stone shoots in for a takedown but Someer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Someer throws a nice head kick!
Someer lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Some wild striking there from Someer.
Stone changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Someer tries to avoid it but Stone manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Someer to the ground. Someer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Stone moves into the clinch successfully.
Someer goes for a takedown in the clinch but Stone prevents it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Stone has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Someer breaks from the clinch.

Stone moves into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stone prevents the takedown attempt.
Someer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stone smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Borrum Someer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stone slips under a jab from Someer.
Borrum Someer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stone wants to clinch but Someer slips to the side
and Stone takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Someer looks for a takedown but Stone sprawls well.
Stone blocks a head kick by Someer.
Borrum Someer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Someer just misses with a punch to the body.
Someer throws a head kick that misses.

Stone feints and as Someer raises his hands in defense, Stone changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Stone avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Someer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stone is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Someer keeping moving, preventing Stone from controlling successfully.

Someer has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Stone is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Someer.
Stone is looking to take a break and control but Someer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Someer gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stone scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Someer?
Stone tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Someer is in all sorts of trouble here.

Stone is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Stone misses with a combination
and Someer counters with a flying knee. Nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Someer will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Stone clinches.
Stone avoiding damage as Someer throws knees to the body.
Someer drops down looking for an ankle pick but Stone pulls his leg out and moves away.
Stone lands a nice leg kick that just misses Someer's sensitive parts.
Stone shoots in but no luck this time.
Someer misses with a low kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Someer.
Stone shoots in for a takedown but Someer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Someer buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Someer fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Stone shoots in and drives through. Someer sprawls well.
Stone has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Phil Stone.
I think Stone has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
