PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael McKay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Digglesworth Rockbottom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McKay's entrance music is Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne. A fine choice. Rockbottom comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Earth Wind & Fire - Lets Groove kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Michael McKay has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Michael McKay seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael McKay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Digglesworth Rockbottom!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Joseph Jones and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rockbottom decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rockbottom is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
McKay is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McKay is trying to maintain the position but Rockbottom is very close to passing his half guard.
McKay is trying to get back to full guard.
Rockbottom is trying to control. McKay wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
McKay has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rockbottom is working away from the top position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
McKay throws a hook to the side of Rockbottom's head but Rockbottom sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Rockbottom fails with the takedown.

McKay drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rockbottom tries to improve position but can't.
Rockbottom regains half guard, as McKay was trying to land strikes.
McKay controlling the action here.

Rockbottom is trying is best to control the position here.
Rockbottom wants to improve his position but McKay is controlling well.
Rockbottom has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McKay is working away from the top position though.

McKay seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Rockbottom is staying active underneath McKay, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

McKay is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Rockbottom still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Rockbottom has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
McKay is looking to reverse the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rockbottom looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Rockbottom prevents McKay from getting the reversal.

A close round but Digglesworth Rockbottom will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rockbottom tries to clinch but McKay moves out of range.
Rockbottom throws a sloppy head kick and McKay moves out of range easily.
McKay thows a body shot but no joy.
McKay throws a low kick but Rockbottom avoids it.
McKay blocks a head kick by Rockbottom.
Rockbottom uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McKay.
McKay shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rockbottom sprawls well. Rockbottom wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. McKay gets slowly back to his feet.
McKay looks to land a left hand but Rockbottom moved out of range nicely.
Rockbottom tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McKay paws at him with a jab and circles away.

McKay instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McKay has picked Rockbottom up - he's going for a ride! McKay dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
McKay controlling the pace.

McKay decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Michael McKay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rockbottom tries to clinch up.
McKay swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Rockbottom fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

McKay is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

McKay is really struggling to control Rockbottom but he's trying to hold on to the position.

McKay slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
McKay has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
McKay wants to control from the top but Rockbottom keeps moving.

Rockbottom lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for McKay!

McKay looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
McKay can't escape the position.

Digglesworth Rockbottom has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rockbottom is breathing heavily.
You can see the frustration on McKay's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
McKay tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Rockbottom can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McKay is looking to escape.
McKay is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
McKay tries to hold on but Rockbottom pushes him away.
Rockbottom looking to control but McKay is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Michael McKay will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

McKay changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rockbottom looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
McKay creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rockbottom sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

McKay thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
McKay is looking to take a break and control but Rockbottom is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rockbottom tries to bench press McKay off him but McKay keeps the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McKay looking to control but instead Rockbottom has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
McKay is trying to control the action in half guard but Rockbottom is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

McKay is just content to waste time from the top position. Rockbottom takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Rockbottom is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
McKay lands a really nice looking cross but Rockbottom seems unphased.
McKay moves in looking to clinch but Rockbottom pushes him off.
Rockbottom throws a head kick that misses.
McKay lands a jab-cross combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rockbottom looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Digglesworth Rockbottom is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rockbottom shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McKay but McKay pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rockbottom uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McKay.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

McKay pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

McKay tries to break the clinch but Rockbottom is controlling the position.
McKay goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rockbottom prevents it.

McKay's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McKay stuffs the takedown attempt from Rockbottom. Rockbottom gets slowly back to his feet.
McKay throws a jab when Rockbottom was well out of range.
McKay shoots in and drives through. Rockbottom sprawls well.
Rockbottom ducks under a wild hook from McKay.

McKay misses with an uppercut.
Rockbottom avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
McKay fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael McKay. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McKay throws a jab but it's blocked by Rockbottom.
Rockbottom tries to close the distance and clinch but McKay swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rockbottom scores with a leg kick.

Rockbottom buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A head kick from Rockbottom lands but McKay takes it in his stride.

Rockbottom slaps away a takedown attempt from McKay, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rockbottom clinches but McKay breaks the clinch
and McKay counters with a nice low kick that buckles Rockbottom's knee momentarily.

McKay missing with a left hand there. Rockbottom was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
McKay circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rockbottom moves in looking to clinch but McKay pushes him off.
Rockbottom tries a head kick but it misses.
Rockbottom is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rockbottom defending well as McKay loads up on a big left hand.
McKay fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rockbottom avoids it really well and circles away.
Rockbottom is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rockbottom tries to clinch but McKay is having none of it.

Digglesworth Rockbottom comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rockbottom has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
