The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gapuz tries for a takedown but State sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Gapuz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
State is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Gapuz jumps into side control!
State takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

It looks like Gunner State has been cut.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gapuz connects with a nice short shot to State's temple.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gapuz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

State decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gapuz, up you get!

State shoots in and bounces Gapuz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

State stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Gapuz to get to his feet.

State closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
