The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie misses with a hook.

Fontaine feints and as Gracie raises his hands in defense, Fontaine changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fontaine can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Fontaine tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.
Fontaineis looking to pass into half guard but Gracie pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Gracie is in guard.

Fontaine looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gracie puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Still in half guard, Gracie seems content to control.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Fontaine defends the submission attempt.

Fontaine wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.

Fontaine knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.

Gracie has hold of Fontaine's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Fontaine manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fontaine is in all sorts of trouble here.
