PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alan Shepard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar has chosen Enae Volare Mezzo as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alan Shepard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fedor Lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lesnar throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Lesnar missing with a left hand there. Shepard was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Shepard swinging wilding here.
Shepard tries to bum rush Lesnar with a series of wild strikes but Lesnar uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lesnar throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Fedor Lesnar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lesnar tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shepard swivels and escapes.
Lesnar fails in his attempt to clinch.

Shepard tries to keep at a distance but Lesnar has taken the fight into the clinch.
Shepard has Lesnar pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lesnar manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lesnar struggles to land a body shot inside as Shepard controls his hands.
Lesnar pushes Shepard back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Lesnar is trying to trip Shepard. He has hold of a leg but Shepard is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Lesnar persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Shepard thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lesnar scores with a three punch combo!
Shepard swats away the attempt to clinch by Lesnar.
Shepard looks to land a combination. Lesnar sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Lesnar looks for a takedown but Shepard sprawls well.
Shepard rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lesnar moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Shepard counters with a single leg into guard. Lesnar didn't expect that.
Lesnar pulls Shepard in close to prevent any damage.

Shepard pushing down on Lesnar's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Still in half guard, Shepard seems content to control.
Lesnar trying to hold on to Shepard's head to control him but Shepard postures up.
Lesnar tries to get to full guard but Shepard has control of the leg.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shepard is trying to control the action in half guard but Lesnar is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alan Shepard will probably get the nod.
That's time! Shepard's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Lesnar scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Shepard connects with a body shot.
Lesnar misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shepard.

Alan Shepard is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Lesnar throws a wild body kick that Shepard sees coming a mile off.
Shepard swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Lesnar counters with a nice double leg into side control. Shepard won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lesnar working the ground and pound.
Shepard tries to improve position but can't.
Shepard trying to remain calm as Lesnar controls from the top position.
Lesnar is looking to take a break and control but Shepard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Lesnar controls the position from side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Shepard is looking for a sweep.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Lesnar is looking to take a break and control but Shepard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lesnar is trying to get an arm triangle but Shepard is defending well.
Lesnar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shepard keeps working.
Shepard manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lesnar wants to pass the guard but Shepard is defending well.
Shepard is doing well to control the position and prevent Lesnar from advancing to side control.
Shepard wants to sweep but Lesnar has passed to side control!
Lesnar trying to control the action but Shepard is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fedor Lesnar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Well, if Shepard is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Shepard tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lesnar knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lesnar is trying to maintain the position but Shepard is very close to passing his half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shepard scores with a one two! Lesnar had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Shepard avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No luck for Lesnar with that takedown attempt.
Lesnar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Alan Shepard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fedor Lesnar.
Shepard shoots in for a double leg but Lesnar sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Alan Shepard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lesnar wants to control the position but Shepard says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
