PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jet Fen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jet Fen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Victor Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hawk is looking to get back to his feet here but Fen is keeping cool and he's managed to take Hawk's back.
Hawk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fen is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Fen punches the canvas rather than the man.

Hawk controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Hawk is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Fen working for a choke but Hawk is defending well.
Hawk wriggles onto his back under a barage of strikes.
Fen looking to control but Hawk is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Fen is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hawk can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Hawk is squirming around, avoiding Fen's attempts to control the action.
Hawk's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Fen wants to control the pace but Hawk is squirming around nicely.

Fen is going olschool here, as he tries to force Hawk to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hawk shrugs it off.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hawk trying desperately to get to his feet.
Fen in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Fen trying to control but Hawk is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fen is really struggling to control Hawk but he's trying to hold on to the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Fen throws a series of punches but Hawk moves out of range.
Fen shoots in for a double leg but Hawk sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hawk fails in his attempt to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hawk looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jet Fen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Fen shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hawk is trying to defend but Fen finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Fen tries to pass to full mount but Hawk defends it.
Hawk is refusing to be controlled, as Fen sits in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jet Fen just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Hawk tries to close the distance and clinch but Fen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hawk doesn't manage to clinch there - Fen circles away.
Hawk moves in looking to clinch but Fen pushes him off.
Fen throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hawk tries to clinch but Fen is having none of it.
Hawk is looking to clinch.

Fen fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fen lands a head kick. Hawk smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Hawk moves in looking to clinch but Fen pushes him off.
Hawk jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Hawk clinches up with Fen and pushes him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hawk's efforts to push away.
Fen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hawk is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Fen misses with a punch on the inside.
A frustrated look appears on Hawk's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Fen drags the fight down to the ground.

Fen looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fen looking to control.
Hawk is looking to stand up but Fen won't let him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Fen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hawk is one step ahead there.
Hawk trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fen's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jet Fen dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hawk moves in looking to clinch but Fen pushes him off.

Fen throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hawk.
No luck for Fen with that takedown attempt.
Hawk is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Fen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fen wants to control but Hawk is keeping him busy.

Hawk regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Fen.
Fen trying to control but Hawk is working from the bottom.
Fen won't allow Hawk to get back to his feet.
Fen slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hawk is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hawk can do anything to dispel that myth.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fen laying and praying for a moment but Hawk takes advantage and regains half guard.
Fen trying to control from Hawk's half guard. Hawk has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fen works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fen wants to control but Hawk is keeping him busy.
Fen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hawk's head.
Fen wants to control but Hawk is keeping him busy.
Hawk wants to get back to his feet.
Fen is looking to stall here but Hawk recovers full guard.
Fen wants to control from the top but Hawk keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hawk wants to clinch up but Fen keeps it at a distance.
Victor Hawk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jet Fen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hawk on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jet Fen showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
