PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Wise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Burke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Wise!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom Burke!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Daniel Bishop and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wise fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Burke stuffs the takedown attempt from Wise. Wise gets slowly back to his feet.
Burke throws a push kick but Wise slaps the foot to one side.

Burke shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Wise napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Wise is looking to regain half guard here but Burke keeps moving and retains side control.
Wise takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Burke wants to control but Wise is keeping him busy.

Burke is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wise knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Burke is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wise is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Wise tries to bench press Burke off him but Burke keeps the position.
Burke should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Wise is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Burke controlling the position.
Wise tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Burke wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wise keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Burke shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Wise tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Burke is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Wise can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Wise is desperately trying to improve his position but Burke has a good base and remains in mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burke working away from the top, dropping strikes.

Burke working for a submission but Wise is keeping him at bay.
Burke looks gassed!
Burke avoids the attempt from Wise to control.
Wise is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Wise tries to reverse the position but Burke maintains control.
Burke tries to take Wise's back but instead Wise uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Burke thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wise's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Burke perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Wise is refusing to be controlled, as Burke sits in half guard.
Burke prevents Wise from improving his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Wise scores with a head kick.
Burke checks the leg kick.
Wise doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Burke counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Burke dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Wise keeping moving, preventing Burke from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Burke gets to his feet. Wise looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Wise tries to clinch but Burke moves away

and Burke counters with a shoot takedown. Wise fights it but they end up in guard.
Burke content to stall in guard here.
Burke wants to control from the top but Wise keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Burke slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Burke postures up in Wise's guard and throws a big left but Wise blocks it.
Burke makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Wise had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Burke is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wise Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Burke's back instead.
Burke looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wise trying to control.
Burke tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Burke tries to improve his position but instead Wise has taken his back!
Burke is really stuck here.
Burke trying to control but not successfully.
Burke staying busy and making it hard for Wise to control.

Wise has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Burke has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Burke tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Burke tries to hold on but Wise postures up.
Wise lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Burke can't escape the position.
Wise landing punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Burke is squirming around, avoiding Wise's attempts to control the action.
Wise lands a heavy elbow.
Burke tries to hold on but Wise pushes him away.
Wise controlling the position easily from mount.

Wise jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Burke is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Burke and Wise has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Burke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Burke scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Wise is looking for a sweep. Burke is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wise wants to control but Burke is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Burke is controlling the pace.

Wise is defending against the submission attempts here by Burke.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Burke is trying to control. Wise wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Wise has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Burke is working away from the top position though.
Wise wants to get back to his feet.

Burke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wise tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Burke was well out of range. Poor timing from Wise.
Wise really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Burke shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Burke crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Wise - the referee stops the clock and Burke gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Wise. Burke manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Wise tries for a takedown but Burke sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Wise misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Burke throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wise was covering up waiting for the punch and Burke finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Burke trying to control the position from guard on top but Wise is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Wise escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Burke gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burke stays in close to Wise's body and controls the position.

Wise is looking for a triangle but Burke pushes his legs off easily.
Burke trying to control the position from guard on top but Wise is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wise trying to keep a closed guard but Burke is proving a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wise wants to get back to his feet but Burke is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Burke is stalling in the full guard.
Wise throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Wise manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burke doing his best to control the position. Can he escape?

And that's the end of the fight!
Tom Burke comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Burke winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
