PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Davids (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Feager (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Feager is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mudvayne-Dig. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Todd Feager!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davids stuffs the takedown attempt from Feager. Feager gets slowly back to his feet.
Davids fails with an attempt to clinch.
Davids gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Feager counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Davids's guard now.
Davids wants to get back to his feet but Feager is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Feager working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Feager loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Feager working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Feager postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Davids wants to clinch but Feager slips to the side

and Feager counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Davids keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Davids is doing well to control the position and prevent Feager from advancing to side control.
Feager keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Davids is controlling Feager's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Feager tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Feager trying to mount his opponent but Davids defends it.
Davids tries to get to full guard but Feager has control of the leg.
Feager is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Feager is tying to control. Davids wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Davids has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Feager is working away from the top position though.
Davids keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Davids darts in trying to clinch

and Feager counters with a single leg into guard. Davids didn't expect that.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Feager accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Feager throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Davids works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Davids misses with a series of wild punches.

Davids fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Feager sprawls well initially but Davids persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Feager wants to improve his position but Davids is controlling well.

Feager flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Feager moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Feager is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Feager had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Davids is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Feager Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Davids's back instead.
Davids is taking damage to the body and head.
Davids takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Feager is punishing Davids with strikes - can he finish him?!
Feager is riding his opponent, not letting Davids buck him off.
Davids is trying to get back to his feet but Feager has full control of the position and if anything, Davids has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Feager is controlling the position but Davids somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.

and Feager counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Feager.

Feager turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Davids wants to get back to his feet.

Davids tries to buck Feager off but Feager is having none of it.

Feager has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Davids clinches but Feager breaks the clinch

and Feager counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Davids's guard now.
Feager is breathing heavily.
Davids lands some strikes from the bottom.
Feager working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Davids is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Davids is trying to control the action in half guard but Feager is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Feager wants to improve his position but Davids is controlling well.
Feager trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Davids manages to pass to mount!
Todd Feager has got the better of the ground game so far.
Davids lands a big shot there that rocks Feager but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Feager is squirming around, avoiding Davids's attempts to control the action.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Feager can do anything to dispel that myth.
Davids is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Davids is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Feager tries to reverse the position but Davids maintains control.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jake Davids just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Davids throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Feager's head.
Davids tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Davids takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Feager looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Davids rushes Feager and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Davids throws a head punch that misses.
Feager's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Feager seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Davids does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Feager perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Feager seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Feager seems to be working for a kimura but Davids defends the submission attempt.
Feager is tying to control. Davids wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Feager decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Davids gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Feager counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Davids is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Feager changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Davids looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Davids wants to get back to his feet but Feager is dominant here and he's now got Davids's back!

Todd Feager showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Davids doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Feager counters by clinching up.
Feager should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Davids wants to stand but Feager has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Feager thows a huge punch but Davids dodges it nicely.
Feager wants to take a breather but Davids is having none of it.
Feager has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Feager stands up and beckons Davids to join him on the feet.

and Feager moves into the clinch.
Davids throws a knee to the head but misses.
Davids tries to pull guard but Feager holds him up against the cage and eventually Davids drops back down to his feet.

Feager slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Feager wants to lay and pray for a moment but Davids keeps working.

Feager stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Davids feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Feager's calf.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
