PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dent Core (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wells Dengel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Core comes to the cage accompanied by FedUp. Dengel is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by "Backlash" by Front Line Assembly. Dent Core could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Wells Dengel's chin.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wells Dengel!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Aafke Stam and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dengel avoids the head kick by Core.
Dengel shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Core defends it nicely.
Core looks to land a combination but Dengel avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dengel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Dengel stands and steps away. Core gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Dengel shoots in for a takedown but Core shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Core throws a right and a left that both miss.

Dengel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Dengel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dengel is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Dengel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Core can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wells Dengel dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Core leaves Dengel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Core misses with the body kick

and Dengel counters with a single leg into guard. Core didn't expect that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dengel tries to free his leg and advance position but Core is retaining full guard.
Dengel is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Dengel stalling away here and it's allowed Core to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Core tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Dengel decides to stand back up. Dengel steps back and let's Core get back to his feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Dengel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Core manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Dengel wants to control from the top but Core keeps moving.

Dengel decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Core, up you get!

Dengel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dengel showed some decent athleticism there.

Dengel is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Core sees it coming and defends easily.

Dengel is looking for a kimura here.
Dengel moves nicely into side control.

Dengel stands up.
Dengel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wells Dengel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Core.

and Core counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Core.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dengel has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Core avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Dengel is trying to trip Core. He has hold of a leg but Core is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Dengel persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Dengel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Core swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dengel wants to stand but Core has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dengel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Dengel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Core has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Dengel has passed into side control.

Dengel stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Dengel feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Wells Dengel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Dengel is stalling in the full guard.
Core really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Dengel decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Core, up you get!

Dengel changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Core looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee asks Dengel politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Dengel prefers to stall for the moment though.

and Core counters with a body kick that stops Dengel in his tracks momentarily.
Dent Core has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wells Dengel.

Dent Core has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Still in half guard, Dengel seems content to control.

Wells Dengel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Dengel winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
