PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Liddle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and A Huge Wrestler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Liddle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, A Huge Wrestler!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wrestler closes this distance looking for a takedown but Liddle circles away.

Wrestler fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Liddle sprawls well initially but Wrestler persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Liddle is looking to improve his position.

Liddle looking for submissions off his back.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Wrestler with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Liddle trying to control but Wrestler postures up.
Wrestler seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wrestler controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Liddle wants to stand but Wrestler is controlling the position.

Liddle wants to hit a switch here but Wrestler passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Liddle there!

I looks like Wrestler might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Liddle is trying to escape the mount.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, A Huge Wrestler just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Liddle drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Liddle jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wrestler has Liddle pulled in close to control his posture.
Liddle stands and throws Wrestler's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Liddle decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Wrestler shoots in and bounces Liddle off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Liddle wants to get back to his feet but Wrestler is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but A Huge Wrestler will probably get the nod.
That's time! Liddle's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

A Huge Wrestler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Liddle darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Liddle is working for a kimura but Wrestler is defending it quite comfortably.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wrestler can do anything to dispel that myth.

Liddle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wrestler keeps working.

Liddle is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Wrestler has managed to free his arm - good work.
Liddle wants to stand up but Wrestler has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Wrestler is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Liddle's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Liddle's back!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wrestler just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

You can see the frustration on Liddle's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Wrestler feints and as Liddle raises his hands in defense, Wrestler changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

A Huge Wrestler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Liddle shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Liddle showed some decent athleticism there.

Let's hope that Wrestler has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Liddle decides to stand up.

Wrestler is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Wrestler is trying to drag Liddle to the mat but Liddle just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Wrestler drops down looking for an ankle pick but Liddle pulls his leg out and moves away.

Wrestler shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Liddle pinned against the cage. Liddle gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

A left and a right from Liddle both land. Nice combination.
Liddle misses with a takedown attempt - Wrestler sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Liddle connects with a right hand. Wrestler shakes it off.
Wrestler fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Liddle avoids it really well and circles away.
Liddle shoots for a takedown but Wrestler saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wrestler takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Wrestler tries to score a power double leg takedown but Liddle sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wrestler somewhat.
Wrestler walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Liddle lands a nice shot to the body.

Nice takedown defense from Liddle. No joy for Wrestler on that attempt.
Wrestler with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Liddle to score with a decent uppercut.
Liddle's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Liddle duly obliges.
A slapping body kick lands there for Liddle.
Chris Liddle has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Liddle closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wrestler manages to get back to half guard.

Liddle is working for a submission of some sort.
Wrestler keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Liddle is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wrestler is just riding it out for now. Liddle eventually gives up the hold.
Wrestler preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Chris Liddle showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Wrestler has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
