PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velazques (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Omar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velazques comes into the arena with Siempre Peligroso blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cain Velazques!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Omar!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Omar misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Omar closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Velazques is trying to escape the position but Omar is controlling the position.
Omar working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Omar tries to move to mount but Velazques blocks the move with his legs.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Omar has eaten all the pies!
Omar is trying to move to mount but Velazques reverses beautifully and ends up in Omar's guard.

Omar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Velazques can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Omar controls Velazques momentarily but Velazques frees himself.

Omar looking for a guillotine here but Velazques defends easily.
Velazques prevents Omar from getting back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Omar looking for a sweep. Not yet Omar, not yet.
Omar thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Omar trying to control the position.
Velazques is stalling in the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Omar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Velazques is one step ahead there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Velazques closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Omar did well to prevent Velazques getting side control.
Omar preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Omar is looking for a sweep. Velazques is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Omar pushes Velazques off looking to stand but Velazques dives back in and keeps control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Omar tries to roll over but Velazques keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jose Omar will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Velazques doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Omar to counter with a crisp jab.
Omar lands a head kick. Velazques smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Omar gets a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Omar is taking a breather. Velazques says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Omar drops an elbow to the side of Velazques's head.
Omar works his way into side control.
Velazques takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Omar swings around for an armbar but Velazques sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Omar's guard.
Omar manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Omar lands a heavy elbow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Omar controlling the pace for now.
Omar is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Velazques can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Omar thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Omar looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Omar controlling the position easily from mount.
Omar raining down shots from the mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Omar with shots to the head and body - Velazques looks very uncomfortable down there.
Velazques takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Omar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Velazques uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Omar.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Omar.
Omar looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Velazques is avoiding damage well.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Omar is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Velazques has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Omar tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Omar has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Omar has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Velazques is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Omar yanks on the arm and Velazques is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Omar.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jose Omar!
