PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Hain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Barzakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hain comes into the arena with Shadow Boxing by Nasty Habits blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Barzakov's choice of entrance music: Alexander The Great by Iron Maiden. Sam Hain had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sam Hain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexander Barzakov!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barzakov throws an overhand right that lands on Hain's shoulder, as Hain tries to avoid the shot.
Hain is trying hard to land a takedown here. Barzakov sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Hain throws a looping overhand right but Barzakov ducks down to avoid it.
Hain closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Barzakov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hain tries for a takedown but Barzakov sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Barzakov thuds his right hand into Hain's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.


It looks like Sam Hain has been cut.
Hain showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Barzakov.

Hain closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Barzakov did well to prevent Hain getting side control.
Hain missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Hain is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Barzakov sees it coming and defends easily.
Hain thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Barzakov's head.
Hain wants to pass to mount but Barzakov is defending the position.
Hain sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Barzakov defending well though.
Barzakov wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barzakov blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hain.

Barzakov has one foot on Hain's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Hain avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hain slips a jab and a cross from Barzakov.
Barzakov misses with the combination.
Hain misses with a double jab
and Hain takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Barzakov throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Barzakov works over Hain's head and body with a nice combination.
Barzakov lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Barzakov.


Hain is rocked!
Hain throws a sloppy body shot
and Barzakov counters with a left to the body.
Oh Hain is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hain has his takedown stuffed
and Barzakov counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Hain seems to have got his legs back now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Hain. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hain is breathing heavily.
No joy there for Barzakov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hain throws a left and a right that both miss
and Barzakov counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barzakov falls off balance throwing a combination

and Hain counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Barzakov is trying to stand back up but Hain is controlling him
Hain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Barzakov kicks Hain off and gets back to his feet.
Barzakov lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hain circles away quickly and effectively.
Barzakov tries to bum rush Hain with a series of wild strikes but Hain uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hain is looking to clinch.
Hain avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Hain scores a takedown into full mount!
Barzakov is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Hain is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Barzakov is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Barzakov flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Hain anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Barzakov and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Hain slips an arm under Barzakov chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Hain has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Hain is squeezing on Barzakov like an anaconda would it's prey. Barzakov fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sam Hain!
