PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kamil Tomcik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Paul!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul lands a two punch combo.

Paul drives through and clinches with Tomcik against the ropes.
Paul looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Tomcik scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Paul is trying to drag Tomcik to the mat but Tomcik just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Tomcik.
Tomcik lands a right hand.

Tomcik breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Paul is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Tomcik throws a jab but it's blocked by Paul.
No joy there for Paul, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Tomcik darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Paul blocks the body kick.
Tomcik misses with a straight right.
Paul displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Tomcik throws out the jab.
Tomcik lands a head kick. Paul smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Paul lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tomcik circles away quickly and effectively.
Paul throws a right and a left that both miss.
Tomcik looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Tomcik looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Paul throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tomcik lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Tomcik misses with a kick to the body.
Tomcik throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Paul tries to close the distance and clinch but Tomcik swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tomcik misses with a low kick.
Paul staying out of range there.
Tomcik pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Tomcik tries to land a front kick but Paul steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Paul throws a series of punches but Tomcik moves out of range.
Tomcik digs a good body shot into Paul's ribs.

Tomcik tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Paul was well out of range. Poor timing from Tomcik.
Tomcik tries to bum rush Paul with a series of wild strikes but Paul uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Tomcik throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Tomcik lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Tomcik pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tomcik throws the kick towards the body but Paul avoids it.
Nice defenses there by Paul.
Paul shoots in for a takedown but Tomcik shows good takedown defense.

Tomcik throws a quick inside leg kick.
Tomcik buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Tomcik misses with a head kick.
Tomcik throws a nice outside leg kick.
Tomcik misses with a shot to the body
and Paul counters with a left to the body.
Tomcik takes a swing at Paul's ribcage but misses.
Tomcik scores with a kick to the midsection.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tomcik connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Tomcik slips a jab and a cross from Paul.
Nice uppercut lands for Tomcik. That snapped Paul's head back.
A solid leg kick lands there for Tomcik.

Tomcik dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tomcik throws a body punch but Paul moves out of range.
Tomcik throws a leg kick but Paul checks it.
Paul checks a leg kick nicely.
Kamil Tomcik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paul moves out of range of the body kick.
Paul tries to clinch but Tomcik moves out of range.
Tomcik throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Paul.

and Tomcik counters with a straight right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tomcik bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Paul's head.

Tomcik leaves Paul with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kamil Tomcik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Paul.
Paul falls off balance throwing a combination
and Paul takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Tomcik throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Paul takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Paul steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Tomcik. That one must have hurt.
A jab from Tomcik misses.
Tomcik does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Tomcik connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Paul ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Paul takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
An inside leg kick lands from Tomcik.
Paul with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Tomcik to score with a decent uppercut.
A head kick from Tomcik lands but Paul takes it in his stride.
Tomcik is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Tomcik tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Tomcik looks to land a left hand but Paul moved out of range nicely.
The fighters circling - Tomcik throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Tomcik throws out a loose jab but Paul uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tomcik scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Paul doesn't seem bothered though.

Paul shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tomcik manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tomcik is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Paul can do to turn this around?

Paul is looking for a kimura but Tomcik is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Paul to get the leverage.
Tomcik wants to improve his position but Paul is controlling well.

Paul is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tomcik defends it well.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Tomcik here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Paul takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tomcik has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Paul is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Paul is working for a kimura but Tomcik is defending it quite comfortably.
Tomcik makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tomcik.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Paul looking to sit in guard and control but Tomcik gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kamil Tomcik is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Paul bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tomcik's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Paul sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tomcik's guard.

Tomcik makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Frank Paul has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Kamil Tomcik showed his dominance in that final round.
