PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chong Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Soral Punkass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chong Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Soral Punkass!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punkass connects with a solid leg kick.
Li is breathing heavily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Punkass.

Punkass decides to stand up, so the ref orders Li to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Punkass misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Punkass fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Li, pushing him back against the cage.

Punkass stalling.
Punkass continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

Punkass has hold of one of Li's legs. Li is fighting the takedown attempt but Punkass gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Punkass sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Punkass throwing strikes but missing.

Li utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Punkass throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Li works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Punkass is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Punkass stands and steps away. Li gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Punkass instigates a clinch.

Punkass is trying to trip Li. He has hold of a leg but Li is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Punkass persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Punkass slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Punkass stands up from Li's guard - Punkass perhaps looking for a knockout.
Punkass throws a nice inside leg kick.

Punkass gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Punkass escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Punkass drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Punkass misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Li is trying to get back to his feet.
Li is looking to reverse the position.
Punkass really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Li. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Li wants to control but Punkass postures up.
Li tries to buck Punkass off but Punkass is having none of it.
Punkass wants to lay and pray for a moment but Li keeps working.
Li wants to get back to his feet but Punkass drags him back down.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Punkass clinches up against the cage.

Punkass ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Punkass no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Punkass wants to stand and escape but Li is having none of it.
Li trying to control the position from guard on top but Punkass is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Li pushing down on Punkass's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Li is looking to take a break and control but Punkass is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Li is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Soral Punkass dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Punkass has Li up against the cage in a clinch.
Li takes an elbow to the forehead.

Punkass pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Punkass has managed to clinch.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Punkass working Li over with knees to the body.

Punkass lands a takedown into guard.
Li can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Punkass controls the pace.

Li escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Punkass gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Li is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Punkass in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Punkass postures up in Li's guard and throws a big left but Li blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Li keeping moving, preventing Punkass from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Punkass gets to his feet. Li looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Li looks to clinch

and Punkass counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Punkass.

Punkass pushes Li off looking to stand but Li dives back in and keeps control.

Punkass has taken the fight to the clinch.

Punkass breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Punkass drives through and clinches with Li against the cage.
Punkass lands a knee to the head.
Punkass unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Punkass ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Punkass no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Punkass is looking to stand up but Li isn't so interested in that idea.
Li slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Punkass throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Punkass is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Li throws a strike but Punkass rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Li is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Punkass gets to his feet - Li follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Soral Punkass showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Li shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Punkass moves into the clinch.
Punkass is pushing Li up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Punkass receives a warning from the referee for stalling.
Punkass gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Punkass scores a nice knee to the body.
Li struggles to land a body shot inside as Punkass controls his hands.

Punkass's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Punkass pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Punkass throws a head kick but Li moves out of range.

Li takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Li shoots and misses

and Punkass counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Punkass.

Punkass's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Chong Li seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Li changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Punkass fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Li is trying for a kimura here. Punkass looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Li wins by kimura!
